Remember when clip-on koalas were all the rage? All of a sudden everyone had one of the little marsupials with the squeezy paws. I guess they were pencil add-ons or something, but we all tried to wear them on our monogrammed sweaters even though they were kind of heavy and awkward and sagged and really were an odd thing to wear on clothing.
In my mind, I think this sprung from the 1980s fascination we Americans had with Australia (Olivia Newton-John! Men at Work! Crocodile Dundee!) but I suppose it could have just been a coincidence.
Did you have a clip-on koala? Did you try to wear it? They still sell 'em.

Are you high? I would never spend $17.95 (plus tax) on a koala clip on! LOL I did have them back in the 80's. I wish I still did. I used to clip them onto my curtains in my bedroom.
I had one clipped to the visor in my car. He's probably still around somewhere!
When I got married in 1993 we used clip on koalas to hold the place cards on the tables. Women guests had a pink ribbon on theirs & men blue ones. My husband an I had little bride and groom koalas holding ours. After quite a few drinks at the reception most of the guests including the men were wearing them as earrings or on other unspecified body parts.
I had koalas, pandas, black bears, raccoons. I used to make desks for them in my lift top desk at school using rulers and I made little tiny text books. The rulers were stuck between books and extended past the books to make the desks.
I actually opted for a clip-on grey squirrel instead. He would hang on my purse strap when he wasn't falling off a zillion times a day. I can't believe I never lost him.
I loved my koala! He was on my purse strap :)
I had a boss who gave everyone in the office clip-on koalas one year for Christmas. My daughter was small at the time, and she was thrilled with it. Thanks for reviving a memory that I had almost totally forgotten!
don't remember the koalas... i came here for the push-ups but the clip on koalas made me think about the plastic monkeys you use to get on sodas at sonic.
I loved them... As a four year old little boy in the early 80's I loved them. Will have to dig in the attic!
I just bought a set of twelve new koalas at a thrift store for 90 cents. Love them
