Datsun, we arrrrre driven!

Remember Datsun? Now they're Nissan, but their commercial "nobody demands more from a Datsun, than Datsun...we arrrrrre driven!" will live on wherever earworms are sold.

Also, check out how he brags about cars that use regular (not unleaded gas). And check out how cheap it was and they're all worried about it. Oh, how little they knew...

I remember these ads! I also remember when $1-a-gallon gas was considered an outrage (if you could find it for sale, that is...)

Recently I read something explaining the reason for the name change from Nissan to Datsun and back again. Seems that Nissan was a major munitions manufacturer for the Japanese during WWII, and after the war, the company feared that Americans would remember that and boycott their cars. Hence the name change. But in the early '80s they reverted to Nissan. See

IIRC, it's one of the reasons Mitsubishi sold cars under Chrysler's name for a while-lots of WW2 vets wouldn't buy a car made by the same company that made the Zero.

I haven't seen a Datsun, outside of a car show, in almost two decades. They've all rusted away around here.
